About Us

My name is Joe, and I'm the founder of Make My Story. I have had a passion for reading and writing since I was very young. In second grade for career day, my only hope and dream was to be an author. That is a big part of why I have been drawn to volunteer my time tutoring children that struggle to learn to read. I've always wanted to use my passion for reading to help others. Only now, with Make My Story do I see the fullest potential in which I can apply this passion.

In learning any new skill, it is proven that you can learn it up to five times faster if you are having fun, playing, or using creativity and imagination while learning the new skill.

This fact lead me to a philosophy that the easiest way for a child to learn new reading skills and become excited about reading is through telling their own unique stories. In engaging their creative brain, children are more receptive to new vocabulary, literary devices, and story themes. The reading process finally becomes exciting when it's their very own story being created.

Putting all of this together inspired me to help make all children's dreams a reality by making their stories come to life. I started ordering blank children’s books and helping them create their masterpiece and learn something new every step of the way. I would write the story for them, and for each part of the story, I let them do the illustrations! When the kids got involved in creating their own story, being both the co-author and the illustrator, it sent their enthusiasm for reading through the roof. It had never been so fun before! They’re watching their own story come to life, and it excites and inspires them every step of the way. Thus Make My Story was born.
